The HYROX World Championships 2025 begin this week in Chicago, IL, where 4,500 athletes will conclude the season over four days.
- The pinnacle event of the fitness race will take place at Navy Pier in Chicago from June 12-15.
- Elite 15 individual men and women compete on Thursday. The event is anticipated to attract over 10,000 fans and athletes.
HYROX has taken over North America in the last couple of years and is on its way to becoming a household name. The fitness race born in Europe is approachable, and the barrier to entry is minimal, thanks to the simplified and uniform racing format.
- A HYROX race consists of eight 1-kilometer runs, with eight stations interspersed throughout each run. The stations feature similar movements to those in CrossFit, such as sled pulls, kettlebell farmers’ carries, and wall balls, as well as meters on rowers and SkiErgs.
- Athletes can compete individually, in pairs, or as part of a relay team with multiple participants. Aside from the professional athletes in the Elite 15 division, competitors can choose to enter the open division or the pro division. The pro division utilizes heavier weights and longer distances for some of the event stations.
Key takeaways:
- The HYROX World Championships for the 2024/25 season will be held from June 12-15 in Chicago, IL.
- Athletes in age group divisions with top placings from any of the HYROX global races can qualify.
- The Individual Elite 15 and Pro Doubles Elite 15 will compete against each other for the top spots.
How to Qualify for the HYROX World Championships 2025
Two major competitions will take place at the World Championship: the Elite 15 races (individual and doubles) and the age group races. Regardless of the division an athlete is in, they must qualify during that specific HYROX season.
- For age-group athletes, qualifying spots are available in each division at every HYROX event throughout the season. Only the top one percent of athletes at each race secure a spot. Due to varying race sizes, there is a cap on qualifying spots depending on the location.
The Elite 15 division is slightly more complex due to the professional nature of the elite athletes and the substantial prize purse available.
- During the 2024/25 season, there are regular season races and races designated as Majors. At the Major races, only the top three Male and Female Elite 15 finishers earn automatic qualification for the World Championships.
- It’s also important to note that if an athlete qualified for the World Championships in a previous race, then the next best athlete receives the invite to Worlds.
How to Watch
The race is best watched in person due to the quick transitions and track-like format of the running portion. However, live streams are available on the HYROX YouTube channel.
- The live event streams will be hosted on the HYROX website.
- Be sure to tune in for the first-ever HYROX press conference on June 11 at 4:00 p.m. CT here.

The Big Picture
HYROX races have gained popularity, especially among the CrossFit community. Some CrossFit gyms are now offering HYROX-specific classes and programming.
- Notable CrossFit athletes, including Justin Medeiros, Chandler Smith, and James Sprague, have participated in HYROX races.
The most decorated individual CrossFit athlete, Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr, has gone (almost) all-in on HYROX. She and Joanna Wietrzyk qualified for the World Championships as a Pro Doubles team at a race in Houston earlier this year, setting a world record in the process.
Wietrzyk and Toomey-Orr race on Saturday, June 14, at 7:00 p.m. CT.
- Toomey-Orr’s training program, PRVN, has also launched a HYROX-specific training initiative, with elite HYROX athlete and coach James Kelly overseeing it.
One last thing: The HYROX wave is here and evolving. The sport is still relatively new in North America, but bringing the World Championships back to the U.S. is a significant development. The last time it was held in North America was in 2022.
