Mayhem, Kriger, Invictus – Top Teams to Watch in a Balanced 2025 CrossFit Games Field

by Energyzonefitness

A mix of experienced squads and impressive newcomers fills out an impressive roster.

The team division at the CrossFit Games is always full of grit, chemistry, and chaos — and 2025 looks to be no different.

  • From veteran squads with previous Games hardware to hungry newcomers ready to shake up the leaderboard, this year’s roster is stacked.

That said, the CrossFit Games is compressed this year, with only 20 teams traveling to Albany to fight for a podium spot. While the field is 10 teams smaller, the squads that remain are the best of the best.

Here’s a breakdown of the contenders to watch.

Remind Me

Every team member participated in the Open, and any licensed affiliate in good standing that registered a team was eligible to compete in the Semifinals.

  • Once the Semifinals started, the team chose two men and two women from their “Competition Team roster” to compete throughout the Semifinals.

Five workouts determined which teams received invites to the CrossFit Games.

The only way to earn a ticket to the CrossFit Games this season as a team was through the In-Affiliate Team Semifinal.

Worth noting: The 2025 CrossFit Games Rulebook stipulates that an affiliate is only permitted to qualify one team per gym for the Games. That adjustment should make this one of the most competitive years yet for the team division.

Teams to Watch at the 2025 CrossFit Games

Frontrunners

CrossFit Oslo Kriger

Europe’s powerhouse team is back, and this year’s roster boasts extensive Games experience, led by Kristin Holte and Tola Morakinyo. With this group of talent at the peak of its power, Oslo Kriger has a strong chance to finally stand on top of the podium.

  • 💪 What a run: If Morakinyo earns a podium spot again this year, his recent Games record would be three podiums in three years on three different affiliate teams.

CrossFit Mayhem

CrossFit Mayhem is synonymous with elite fitness and has been at the top of the Team Division for a decade.

  • The team’s makeup is identical to last season, with Angelo DiCicco as the captain. Renowned for their consistency, the team’s only speed bump during the Semifinals was a 43rd-place finish in the fifth workout.

CrossFit Invictus

Invictus is always a name to fear in the team competition and rolls deep with the “Sea of Green,” still relatively fresh off their 2023 win.

  • Now that affiliates can only send one team to the Games, Invictus took members from separate squads to build what they hope is the best team on the field. Look for Phillip Muscarella, Emily Rethwell, Sean Early, and five-time Individual Games athlete Dani Speegle to challenge for the top podium spot.

In the Hunt

CrossFit 1124

CrossFit 1124 has three team members returning from 2024, with individual athlete Jessica Androsik joining as their fourth member.

  • They finished sixth in Semifinals with a third-place performance in the first workout serving as their high-water mark.

CrossFit Butcher’s Lab Vanløse

CrossFit Butcher’s Lab Vanløse qualified for the Games in second place overall. Christina Agerback leads the team and is returning after serving as a member in 2024.

Keep an Eye On

8th Day CrossFit

Earning the final Games ticket in Semifinals (CrossFit Hendersonville was added later as a backfill), 8th Day returns almost the same roster as the team that finished in fifth place at the 2024 Games.

CrossFit Undivided

Undivided is full of individual experience, with Kristine Best as captain and Griffin Roelle on the roster.

  • Four-time Games team athlete Christine Znosko and Games team athlete Mike Needleman round out the squad that won the final event of Semifinals.

One last thing: At the time of publication, three Team events have been released, including one with major synchro work, as well as the Worm, and the one-rep max back squat test announced this week.

It should be an intense few days of competition for the teams.
