While this monitor does provide great visuals for indoor rowing workouts through the iFIT platform, it doesn’t pivot, meaning off-rower workouts need to occur at the rear of the machine.

Plus, athletes wanting a more immersive viewing experience may prefer a larger display, like the 10-inch HD touchscreen of the RW700 or the massive 24-inch console found on the RW900. Still, though, many of the best budget rowing machines don’t feature HD touchscreens, so the RW600 can be viewed as an upgrade over these silhouettes, even despite the smaller display.

Aside from the dimensions and screen size, the RW600 is very comparable to other NordicTrack rowing machines when it comes to the workout experience. You still have access to the iFIT training library, which includes over 17,000 on-demand workouts across various disciplines. Our Experience Training With the NordicTrack RW600 Rower

While we haven’t had much experience with this specific RW600 profile, we are well-versed in the NordicTrack RW lineup, and given the similarities across the silhouettes, we feel we’re capable of providing high-quality insight for this budget-minded silhouette. We tested this RW600 across multiple categories, including adjustability, durability, available programming, and more. Like our experience with over 18 other popular rowing machines, these ratings were scaled from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest).

Silent Magnetic Resistance System

NordicTrack’s Silent Magnetic Resistance system — also known as the abbreviated SMR — is one of the smoothest systems we’ve had the pleasure of testing and why the brand’s rowers often rank highly amongst some of the best magnetic rowing machines. The RW600’s inertia-enhanced flywheel moves efficiently with each stroke, and the 26 available resistance levels give you enough room to challenge yourself day in and day out.

We also rated the adjustability at 4 out of 5 given its whisper-quiet operation. This makes the RW600 more appealing for family homes as there’s no loud audio feedback during training sessions. Other rowers using water or air resistance may be too distracting, especially when you’re trying to train around other home dwellers trying to tend to children or their work from home responsibilities.

iFIT Training Platform

One of the biggest perks with this RW600 is its compatibility with the iFIT training platform. As one of the best workout apps we’ve tested, this service can deliver over 17,000 on-demand classes across multiple disciplines, including HIIT, yoga, and more — all led by world-class trainers.

Our tester, a CrossFit Level-1 instructor, states, “I really enjoy iFIT workouts because there’s a ton of engagement. The trainers are energetic, and the music selection is more than enough to keep your heart pumping. Plus, there’s virtually no end to the amount of training modules available — you could be rowing in-tune with a studio-like class one day and experience real-world scenery in some of the most scenic environments the next.”

We also rated the RW600’s available programming at 5 out of 5 given the inclusion of AutoAdjust technology. Instead of reaching forward to match your resistance level to your on-screen instructor, the machine automatically does the toggling for you. This can be excellent for keeping your focus on your form rather than your exercise equipment’s settings, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the workout at hand.

We do note, though, that iFIT is not a free online workout program. While you do get a 30-day free trial period at purchase, you’ll need to pony up the cash to maintain your subscription afterwards. Memberships are available for $39 monthly, and multi-year packages are also available for greater savings in the long run.

Low User Weight Rating

While the ergonomic features of the RW600 do make for a comfortable setup, we do wish that the construction was, say, a bit sturdier. We haven’t experience any jostling or shakes when training with one of NordicTrack’s rowers, but still rated the durability at 3 out of 5 given the RW600’s low 250-pound user weight rating.

“Normally, I’d look for a rower capable of supporting between 300 and 350 pounds,” notes our tester, a certified personal trainer. “Some of the best rowing machines for heavy people can even support up to 700 pounds. This RW600 profile may not be the best solution for larger athletes, but thankfully, there is an extensive warranty to help defend against breaks or damage.”

NordicTrack RW600 Rower Vs. Competitors

The NordicTrack RW600 is a definite standout amongst rowing machines thanks to its affordable price tag and iFIT integration, but that doesn’t mean it’s without competition. Below are two comparable rowers we feel match up well to this NordicTrack offering — the Hydrow Wave Rower and Concerpt2 RowERG.

The Hydrow Wave Rower is an excellent option for space-conscious athletes, as the compact 80-inch by 19-inch footprint can fit neatly in plenty of home training areas. Like the RW600, the Hydrow Wave is also compatible with a digital training platform — we’ve even ranked both iFIT and Hydrow as some of the best rowing apps. Unfortunately, the upfront cost of the Hydrow Wave is higher than that of NordicTrack’s, as the Wave Rower is nearly $700 more expensive for the machine alone.

Coming in around the same price tag of the RW600, the Concept2 RowERG can be a good option for those wanting a stable rower yet aren’t as enthused about trainer-led workout programs. The RowERG also features a collapsible slide rail for easier storage. However, this air-driven profile will be much louder than the Silent Magnetic Resistance system found in the NordicTrack construction, which may be a nuisance for those wanting an ultra-quiet workout environment.

Our experience assembling the RW600 was a painless endeavor requiring roughly one hour to complete. Naturally, having a helping hand can be beneficial, especially if you’re uncomfortable moving the 129-pound profile into its resting location.

In terms of the ordering process, we’d compare this RW600 experience to any other online transaction. There is free standard shipping, too, which helps lower the cost.

If you don’t want to build this rowing machine yourself, NordicTrack offers two upgradeable service packages. Room of Choice Delivery and Assembly ($249) will have professionals deliver and assemble the RW600 in any room of choice. Additionally, all packaging will be removed post-construction for an easier clean-up.

The brand’s Delivery, Assembly, and Disposal of Old Equipment package ($349) includes all services of the Room of Choice Delivery and Assembly bundle along with the fact that NordicTrack will remove one piece of existing fitness equipment. This can be a viable option if your home gym is already built out and you’re looking to move on from a previous piece, such as an old exercise bike or treadmill.

You can opt to purchase a 3-year extended warranty package ($159.99), which would extend support for parts and labor to five and four years, respectively. NordicTrack also offers a 3-year maintenance plan ($199.99) providing 3-year support for both parts and labor, as well as an annual 15-pound maintenance inspection, upon request.

Final Thoughts on the NordicTrack RW600 Rower

The NordicTrack RW600 can be a great rowing machine for those tight on funds yet still want to partake in trainer-led workouts. While the integrated 7-inch HD touchscreen may be too small for some tastes, the fact that this rower is equipped with iFIT puts it in another threshold when compared to other cheaper rowers. Plus, vertical storage capabilities do help counter the fact that this is NordicTrack’s largest rowing machine in terms of overall footprint.
